Holmen Varsity Wrestling Dominates Sparta Invitational

This past Saturday, the Holmen varsity wrestling team traveled to Sparta to compete in the highly anticipated Sparta Invitational. The team showcased their skills, determination, and depth, earning an impressive 1st place in the team standings with a total of 214 points, well ahead of runner-up Reedsburg’s 185.5 points.

The invitational featured strong individual performances across weight classes:

  • 106 lbs: Rex Lancaster (34-4) finished 2nd, scoring 22.0 points. After advancing through the bracket with dominant wins, he fell just short in the championship match.
  • 120 lbs: Nathan Henderson (31-4) claimed 1st place, scoring 25.5 points. Henderson dominated his competition, winning two matches by technical fall and defeating his opponent in the finals with a 12-6 decision.
  • 126 lbs: Brock Needham (25-8) placed 2nd, earning 22.0 points. Needham battled through three decisive wins before dropping a hard-fought final match.
  • 132 lbs: Turner Campbell (25-2) took 1st place, scoring 28.5 points. Campbell displayed outstanding performance, winning all his matches by fall, including the championship match in just over a minute.
  • 138 lbs: Noah Henderson (29-10) finished as the runner-up, scoring 22.5 points. Henderson pinned his way to the finals before falling in a close 11-6 decision.
  • 144 lbs: Camden Thiele (26-10) battled back to take 5th place, scoring 14.0 points, with victories including two technical falls and a decisive 5-4 win in the placement round.
  • 150 lbs: AJ Alesch (14-4) emerged as the champion, scoring 24.0 points. Alesch remained composed in tight matches, securing his title with a 4-1 decision in the finals.
  • 157 lbs: Colin Griffin (25-10) earned 3rd place, scoring 19.0 points, with three wins by fall, including a quick pin in the placement match.
  • 165 lbs: Jonathon Lamprich (27-5) dominated his way to 1st place, scoring 24.5 points. Lamprich capped off his run with a thrilling 4-3 decision in the finals.
  • 175 lbs: Emerson Lau-Melby (13-12) competed fiercely but did not place, contributing 4.0 points.
  • 215 lbs: Conner Degner (9-22) placed 7th, scoring 8.0 points. Degner picked up key victories, including a fall and a medical forfeit in his placement match.

Holmen’s balanced attack across all weight classes propelled them to victory in a competitive field of 17 teams. Their performance highlights the program’s strength and the hard work of athletes and coaches alike.
