The Holmen Varsity Vikings faced a tough doubleheader against a strong Marshfield squad on Friday, dropping both games by scores of 18-4 and 15-5.
In Game 1, Holmen struck first in the second inning with an RBI single from Marissa McHugh. However, Marshfield quickly answered and took control with a four-run fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Taylar Weis and a two-run homer by Lillian Griesbach. Marshfield continued to pour it on, scoring six runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to put the game out of reach. Despite multiple hits from Taylor Everson and Makenzie Nunemacher and a two-RBI effort from Macy Kline, Holmen couldn’t keep pace.
Game 2 saw Holmen battle back early, tying the game at 3-3 in the second inning thanks to back-to-back doubles, including one from Kline. But Marshfield responded with a seven-run outburst in the bottom half, keyed by a three-run double from Madison Kraus. Holmen’s offense showed flashes, with Nunemacher and Avalee Euler each driving in two runs and Everson swiping two bases, but Marshfield’s offense proved too much once again.
Across the two games, Marshfield combined for 33 runs on 33 hits and was led by Griesbach, who racked up five RBIs in Game 1, and Kraus, who totaled seven RBIs across both games. Holmen will look to regroup as they head to La Crosse Logan on Tuesday.
