Holmen Boys Basketball Falls Short in Close Match Against Aquinas

Holmen High School’s boys basketball team put up a hard-fought battle but fell just short against Aquinas in a thrilling conference game on January 28th. Despite leading by one point at the end of the first period, Holmen ultimately lost 54-50 at Aquinas.
Senior guard Wilber led Holmen’s offensive efforts, scoring 21 points while shooting 42% from the field, including an impressive 87% from the free-throw line. Wilber’s performance was complemented by Eisermann, who contributed 17 points and maintained a strong 50% field goal percentage. Lindberg added 7 points, including a key three-pointer, while Berget chipped in 5 points to keep Holmen in the game.
Aquinas took control in the second period, outscoring Holmen 32-27, which proved decisive as neither team added points in the third and fourth periods. Holmen struggled to capitalize from beyond the arc, shooting only 22% on three-point attempts. Despite the shooting challenges, Holmen stayed competitive thanks to solid rebounding, led by Rink and Eisermann, who pulled down 7 rebounds each.
Defensively, Holmen displayed strong hustle, forcing 15 steals throughout the game, with Berget and Rink leading the way. However, turnovers and missed free throws (57% FT shooting) ultimately hampered Holmen’s efforts to clinch the win.
Holmen looks to bounce back in their next conference game, where they aim to tighten their defense and improve shooting efficiency. Coach remarks highlighted the team’s resilience and the standout performances of Wilber and Eisermann as bright spots for the season moving forward.
