Game 1 Recap: Chippewa Falls 3, Holmen 2

Holmen battled to the final out but came up just short in a 3-2 loss to Chippewa Falls on Friday evening. Despite a late surge in the seventh inning, the Vikings couldn’t overcome early deficits as their record moved to 0-3 on the young season.

Offensive Highlights:

• Nolan Mashak came through with a clutch RBI single in the seventh, cutting into Chippewa Falls’ lead and igniting Holmen’s late push.
• Tyler Rosenow and Noah Oswald both scored in the seventh, with Oswald also drawing two walks on the night.
• Brennon Metzler led the team with a 2-for-3 performance and added a stolen base.
• Abe Henderson and Mashak each swiped a bag as Holmen continued to apply pressure on the basepaths.

Pitching Breakdown:

• Jude Anderson got the start and went three innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out two.
• Brayden Wall followed with two innings of relief, allowing one run and striking out one.
• Josiah Kulmaczewski closed out the game with two scoreless frames, holding Chippewa hitless while walking one.

Defensive Effort:

The Vikings stranded six Cardinal baserunners and made several key plays to keep the game within reach.

Despite a pair of errors in the field, Holmen held Chippewa to just six hits.

Game 2 Recap: Chippewa Falls 3, Holmen 3 (Tie)

In a thrilling conclusion to their doubleheader, Holmen and Chippewa Falls fought to a 3-3 draw after seven innings. Both teams exchanged runs early and late, but neither could claim victory as the game ended in a stalemate due to darkness. Holmen moved to 3-1-1 on the season.

Offensive Highlights:

• Joe Meeter continued his hot streak, finishing the game 2-for-3 with a triple and a stolen base. His leadership at the plate helped fuel the offense.
• Abe Henderson drove in two runs, contributing with a sacrifice bunt and solid at-bats throughout the game.
• Tyler Rosenow collected an RBI on a single, and Brayden Wall also added a hit, but the Vikings were unable to capitalize on multiple base runners.
• Despite the strong effort from the offense, Holmen stranded eight runners, leaving several opportunities on the table.

Pitching Breakdown:

• Alex Goryl made a solid start, throwing three innings, allowing one earned run on four hits, and striking out none but keeping Chippewa Falls’ offense in check.
• Joe Meeter came on in relief, tossing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts, continuing his strong all-around performance.
• Noah Oswald closed the game, giving up two earned runs in two innings while striking out two. His effort was crucial in keeping Holmen within striking distance.

Defensive Notes:

• Holmen committed four errors, including a costly one by Brennon Metzler that led to a Chippewa Falls run. However, Joe Meeter made a great defensive play in the third inning to keep the game tied.
• The Vikings showed resilience despite defensive lapses and continued to press their opponents.
