Double Overtime Thriller: Holmen Edges Onalaska in Rivalry Clash

Fans were treated to an instant classic as rivals Holmen and Onalaska battled through two overtimes in a thrilling contest that saw Holmen emerge victorious 53-46. Holmen jumped out to an early 8-0 lead and carried a 27-20 advantage into halftime. Imani Toso extended the lead to 30-20 with a 3-pointer to start the second half, but Onalaska responded with a 12-0 run to take their first lead of the game. The game remained a seesaw battle, with neither team able to pull away. At the end of regulation, the score was knotted at 42. Both teams managed 3 points in the first overtime period, setting the stage for more drama. A crucial block by Holmen’s Charley Casey on a potential game-winning shot by Onalaska forced a second overtime. In the second overtime, Holmen seized control. Back-to-back 3-pointers from freshman Makenzie Nunemacher and senior Imani Toso gave Holmen a 51-45 lead with 1:45 remaining. Toso’s 3-pointer ignited the crowd of over 1,000, propelling Holmen to a 53-46 victory. Imani Toso led the Vikings with 15 points, followed by junior Macy Kline with 13, freshman Makenzie Nunemacher with 11, and senior Danika Rebhahn with 10. Holmen connected on 10 three-pointers as a team. Charley Casey dominated the boards with 13 rebounds, while Macy Kline dished out 7 assists. With the win, Holmen improves to 7-7 overall and 4-2 in the MVC. They face a tough test next, hosting state-ranked Aquinas on Tuesday, January 28th.
